Utilities

Isle of Man utilities guide — Manx Utilities (electricity & water), broadband providers (Sure, Manx Telecom), mobile networks and switching advice.

Utilities on the Isle of Man

Unlike the UK, you don't shop around for electricity or water on the IoM. Here's how it all works.

Electricity & Water — Manx Utilities

Manx Utilities Authority is the sole provider of electricity, water and sewerage on the island. No competition, no switching — but also no confusing tariffs.

  • Electricity tariff: Domestic rate approximately 17-20p/kWh (check current rates)
  • Water: Metered in most new properties. Rates based on rateable value for older homes.

Fibre Status: The IoM is rolling out full fibre (FTTP) across the island. Many areas now have 1Gbps available. Check Sure and Manx Telecom websites to see if your address has fibre.

Mobile Networks

  • Sure — 4G/5G coverage across most of the island
  • Manx Telecom — 4G coverage, 5G rolling out
  • UK networks: EE, Three, Vodafone, O2 work on the island via roaming agreements — but you may be charged roaming fees depending on your plan. Check with your UK provider.

Gas

There is no mains gas on the Isle of Man. Homes use electricity, oil, LPG (bottled gas) or solid fuel for heating. If you're moving from the UK, factor this into your energy costs.
